There are some type of steel clamp. I suppose you are speaking about flemish eye steel clamp. You can press IWRC as well as textil core wire ropes with steel clamps and aluminium clamps. If you use aluminium clamp with IWRC you must use bigger size of ferrule. Aluminium clamps achieve the 90% of breaking load in IWRC and textil core (as EN 13414-4). Flemish eye steel clamp achieve (as some manufactures) between 85 and 96% depends on the tipe and diameter of the wire rope.For corrosion is better steel because in corrosive atmosphere galvanic corrosion can happen with aluminium. Other important difference is that steel is more resistan to crushing, clash, etc. The aluminiun clamp adventages is price because it is cheaper and you save a lot of time for making slings.
