There is no way to assign a time frame to wire rope. It might be possible if the sling was used for 1 application and 1 only. Here in the Gulf of Mexico environmental and offshore use plays a huge part in determing life. The rope can be damaged by the environment, but usually is damaged by crushing, shockload, etc. The only thing I could suggest is regular inspection/evaluation of the wire rope to determine it's suitability for the job and the environment. After a period of time this will eventually give you a life expectancy - however - one event that damages the sling/cable will make your time study useless. We have built new slings and cable assemblies and gotten them back 10 days later damaged. Please contact me by e-mail if you have any questions
