Question: What is the expected life (in hours of use) of a wire rope? I realize that there are many factors that effect wire rope life, environment, frequency of lifts, percentage of capacity and maintenance, etc. Over time what have the users seen as hours of use? One crane manufacturer has suggested replacing the wire rope at 1000 hours. Another manufacturer says some of there customers replace the wire rope every three years. I am trying to establish a preventive maintenance schedule where we would replace the wire rope every __???___ hours of use. This would be in addition to traditional wire rope replacement criteria found in the DOE, OSHA and ANSI standards.
